Doctor Iván Ramos Calderón, President of the ASCUN, Doctor Joaquín Sánchez, Rector of the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, and Doctor Ramon Torrent, Executive Secretary of OBREAL opened the event the Seminar.

During the opening ceremony, the speakers underscored the importance of the seminar as a fora in which to enhance the discussion on the relations between Latin America and the European Union and as an opportunity to further strengthen cooperation between both regions.
A presentation followed of the results of the study on Good Practices and Recognition of Degrees and Qualifications carried out by BRIDGES-LAC. The study showed that trust, mutual knowledge and a tradition of cooperation are the main factors that affect the development of good practices. It became clear that, even though the legal framework of the relationship is an important variable, there are also other more informal channels through which cooperation in the field of higher education can be promoted.

The discussion among the experts revealed once more the importance of “knowing the partners involved” at the moment of establishing good practices. The need to make raising awareness of this important issue in Latin America and the European Union also became apparent.
